The dark side of Trip Advisor

         Trip advisor??
      How old are you??

The all mighty and powerful, is what they think.

I suppose they can  hold a business by the balls and in some cases do great harm to them.

They definitely enjoy the drama between businesses, I assume it drives their web site even more, because sadly, many people like drama, they are like a soap opera, the more negative the drama the more people tune in,

For us at Brunch,we try to do our best without it, for many years we haven’t asked for comments, we never talk about it, in or around. We are informed by many clients that other restaurants ask or even beg for good comments...

....so how does that work mmm? Pick and choose only the happy faces?

Would they ask a (not so happy face) I very much doubt that. They have even offered free perks for 5 big ones,

I get The plants (as I call them) , you know the ones sent in by the competition, negative right when they walk in, try to be nice to them but they won’t have it, I have even seen them write the vicious comment as soon as they are seated!

One plant went so far as to falsely accuse my staff of (inappropriate touching and inappropriate comments to her) when I offered evidence to T.A. of the contrary, for example, two of the wait staff are female, two are here many years, one very married Ect, and we have cameras that we can replay up to 6 months if needed which we did and found nothing!!yet T.A. refused to remove it!!

Would it not be mandatory to have solid evidence for such an accusation ??

Basically with T.A. you can claim almost anything and they will publish it,one person even told me she was told what to write from a near by restaurant.

I was even approached by someone offering help to get me to #1 position for 100.000 pesos...I refused, he added that a local coffee shop was paying him and sure enough #1 they became...look I prefer to work harder and try to do our best and rely more on word of mouth, that to me is more real and we are not Harassing or putting people on the spot which can be uncomfortable to the customers.

We don’t have T.A. adds on any of our material, they are not on the front of the restaurant, they will not be on the new restaurant (under construction next door). For years Brunch was in the #1 position without asking for any comments, at almost 1000 comments, most of them are respectful, that’s not to bad, however, I, as you possibly have read will not accept disrespectful comments or lies because the Brunch staff work hard and are proud of what they do here.

For example, just recently a man and woman sat at table #1 from France (he told the staff where he were from and wrote the comment in french). He received prompt service, the food that he ordered and refill on coffee (free). He appeared to be 40 years but watching the video acted like a 10 years...

...after the meal ordered the pack lunch he was treated with total respect but was absolutely an ass to the staff, immediately posted on T,A, how bad everything was, the worst coffee, (had refill) he even complained about the pack lunch...

...everything he picked apart was the most popular comments from others, his mission was to knock us down to his level because this person would never take a risk to own a business because people that do, don’t behave this way, his last comment to the staff was, this must be an American Restaurant, that is why it is so bad!! Reviled!! If he isn’t an adult by 40 it will never happen!!

So sad..there is a new game in town the staff and I have been watching, when we get four or five excellent comments immediately we receive a poor comment to keep us low on t.a. Radar, like clockwork, what the culprits (we know who they are).
What they don’t get is, that it only makes Brunch even busier because they underestimate the intelligence of people, I think most customers get it and what I am hearing more and more is, people don’t do T.A.... they tell me they are finding other ways for information and rely more on word of mouth.

In the future we will use this platform to properly dennounce plants (people sent to make fake comments),we will attach videos and all proper evidence since T.A. has no interest in doing so.

So take it for what it’s worth ,,,,this is Geoff signing off, I’ll leave the light on for ya....
